On an average day, lunch time could easily be Ed's favorite part of the day. It didn't mean that he didn't enjoy his school work, he just liked to study on his own terms. Focus on the things he wanted to learn, and decide for himself when to pay attention to which subject. Which didn't always keep him in his teacher's favor, but he wasn't generally worried about that.

Right now he was worried about food, and what was available to eat. Not that Ed was picky about what he ate by any means, gladly taking the bowl of stew as the line progressed - only to be interrupted by another student reaching in front of him to claim the last roll in the basket before he even had a chance to respond. Just as quick as the kid showed up they was gone again, leaving Ed to dodge around the people in front of him to pursue the brat.

Which would have gone a lot smoother if he hadn't been paying so much attention to where the kid went that he completely missed the boy he cut off in the process- who, in turn, walked right into him. Years of training with his foster mother helped him maintain his balance, lifting his tray to avoid losing the contents all over both of them, but the younger boy was not so lucky, spilling his lunch all over both of them.

Every day for months, at the same window was the white haired kid, feeding that bird. Ed had never really noticed him before that, but he stuck out a bit cooing over a tiny gold finch every morning - white hair, one long scar down his face and standing, for the most part alone. Edward really wouldn't have even noticed him except that a small crowd had gathered one day while he was trying to get by, and the boy was there every day after that, doing the same thing. Even if he was doing it alone, now.

He waited for the finch to fly off again before approaching. Taking note of the kid's disheveled look and hoping he hadn't realized Ed had been watching him for a bit. Although curiosity was in his nature and there wasn't much going on at this time of the morning, he didn't want to seem like he had nothing better to do than watch some kid feed a bird. Offering the kid a friendly smile, he kept his tone casual - one hand holding the strap of the bag he kept his books in, the other jammed deep into a pocket. "They let you keep a bird here?"

I'm so hungry....

[This is muttered under Ed's breath as he fixes the settings, before sitting down to properly post, sort of glaring with the first thing he says.]

When I get my hands on the kid that took the last roll at lunch today, they're going to pay. I know you can read this, what did you think you were doing cutting in front of me like that? I nearly lost my whole lunch because of you!

[After a pause his expression softens some, looking more like he's addressing an intentional audience, now.]

Fletcher, right? Did you want some help with that homework you mentioned? I should have some free time after chess.

[OOC Note: Anyone that happens to have this journal friended, or finds this post somewhere... Just ignore it.

Thanks.]
